June Favorites: Skincare Edition

I have found a lot of great products recently. I realized this, when I went through my Amazon account yesterday and left a lot of reviews. I took some photos. I thought that I would share some of my favorite finds with everyone.

During May and June, I tried out a bunch of different skincare products. Today, I thought that I would share my favorite finds.

I love these! And I found them by pure accident. I was searching around on Amazon’s Subscribe & Save and saw these. It seemed perfect!

I use Simple Micellar Water to clean my very dry face, especially when I’m in a hurry. I used to use at least 5 cotton rounds to get my face clean, and my fingers would get very pruny.

When I found these, I was really happy! I use one of these and just one cotton round to get my face clean. It’s so much easier!

This is my favorite face sunscreen. I have tried a lot of mineral sunscreens for my face. I spent 2 years using a different one, but I totally abandoned it when I found this. Also, this is such a steal! I ran across the brand in a YouTube video. Then I saw the price at Target, which was close to what I was already paying for my normal one from Sephora. Then, the price at Amazon was just more than 1/5 the price! So, I picked it up.

It’s great because mineral sunscreen is good for sensitive skin. It absorbs easily, but since it doesn’t have a pump, I do have to measure it each time. It works great under BB Creams, cushion foundation, or liquid foundation. However, if you are going to be sweating, do some research and see if you should wear a different type.

It’s so great because it works like a primer for me–it kind of evens out my skintone. I hope it works for you!

I usually put the SPF 40 from Supergoop on my hands at the same time that I put sunscreen on my face. I keep the Neutrogena UltraSheer in my bag, too. I like to use it to if I am running late or need to touch up. I never leave home without it.

AHAVA Broad Spectrum Hand Cream is something that I always keep in my purse. When I am getting ready in the morning, I put on a higher SPF, but I instead of pulling out my CeraVe every single time, I touch up with this! It’s a great way to make sure that my hands don’t age.

I first saw this at Ulta and it caught my eye. Later, I picked it up on Amazon.

I love Paula’s Choice ultra-rich face lotion, and this body lotion is just as good. My feet are always super dry. Also, my skin is very dry–and not just on my face. I love to use a self tanner, so this helps keep my shaved legs really smooth.

I used to use gradual sunless tanners, but I never loved the results. I tried out a few other formulas this summer. I found my favorite, but each time I made sure to use a physical exfoliater, like the blue mitt above, instead of a sugar scrub, because it works better and doesn’t leave behind any residue. Also, I used tanning mitts for the first time. I stocked up on St. Tropez and Vita Liberata mitts. Personally, I like Vita Liberata mitts better.

This Bondi Sands Liquid Gold Self Tanning Dry-Oil is my favorite way to tan during the summer and year-round. I can easily apply a layer on each leg, arm, and upper torso by myself first thing in the morning. It dries really quickly. Then, I am tan by the end of the day, plus there is no self-tanner smell!

It’s great because the color isn’t too orange. It does fade a bit patchy, so you have to keep it up or exfoliate it with a hand mitt!

Also, I tried about 5 different sunless tanners, so if anyone wants me to review the differences, let me know!

Flat to Fabulous: This Product Will Change Your Hair Forever

A few weeks ago, I did the big hair chop. My hopes were to make my hair look thicker. It helped a lot, but I’m always on the lookout for a product that will make my hair look even thicker. I read an article from Glamour the other day about Kaley Cucou’s even shorter new hair. While I love looking at celebrity hair, I get a little frustrated because I know that I can never replicate the look. I asked my stylist about thicker hair that I saw in a photo, and she said that it all came down to products, and that kind of volume would never last.

Little did she know that the article about Kaley Cucou’s new hair would unlock that secret for me!

The secret is Kenra Professional Platinum Dry Texture Spray. I bought mine from Amazon because I wasn’t sure if I would find it at Ulta.

I used a volumizing mousse when I dried my hair. The after shot is just a few sprays of the texturizing spray.

Summer Hair Cut & Color

A few weeks ago, I was browsing through Bloglovin and saw a cool post on a hairstyle for short hair. Then I saw someone’s post about how they haven’t changed their hair in 8 or so years and they included some possible new ‘dos.

Of course, that brought back my short hair itch. I’ve always had hair on the shorter side. I did a big chop in 2009, right before my internship in DC. I was at my lowest weight ever and thought a new, shorter cut could show off my confidence. I think it worked.

short hairSince then I’ve tried long hair twice–only to chop it off, twice.

This weekend, I went to the salon, not only to shop off all of the frizzy hair that took so much time to style and still look messy, but to add some highlights. The last time I highlighted my hair was high school, when it pretty much turned red. It was that short flipped out look. I thought I was cute.

I don’t remember highlights taking so long, but after 3 hours in the salon, I couldn’t be happier! It was a great self-reward for meeting my halfway goal to getting back to my college weight. I’m a little afraid of gaining it back if I get sick again, but I’ve already been through hell, and as another person with Cervical Dystonia told me, she would rather be a skinny lady with a funny neck instead of a fat lady with a funny neck. This woman, a great friend on MyFitnessPal, has lost 65 pounds with Cervical Dystonia and continues to encourage me daily. When you have something like I have, it’s hard my make real life friends with the same condition, not only because we are hard to find, but also because no one ever seems to feel well at the same time!
